Who Am I?

MeBorn and raised on a farm in the middle of central Queensland, I soon found programming computers an effective and enjoyable way to relieve massive amounts of boredom brought on by being over 2 hours drive away from the nearest decent cinema.

At age 13 I had successfully created a suit of games for my two younger sisters to enjoy, using the QBasic programming language. Over the next few years I discovered the joys and pains of HTML. I also dabbled with Visual J++ 6 on my little Compaq laptop.

In the later years of high school I started to get into Linux, trying the various flavours and enjoying the challenge of simply getting things like soundcards to work. I have seen Linux grow so much in that short period of time and the speed of growth behind the entire open source movement is simply astounding.

During high school I developed a broad range of skills ranging from Physics and Chemistry to Music. I received the senior award for music having finished at the top of the school.

After completing high school with an OP of 4, I entered university to study the dynamic and stimulating world of Multimedia.

During my multimedia degree I expanded on my interests, soaking up the wealth of information supplied at my finger tips. I will never forget the sense of satisfaction I gained by completing a Java implementation of the 3DES encryption algorithm (I realised half way through a jug of beer that the problem I had been stuck on for the last 3 days had to be caused by a typo in the expansion permutation lookup table). I also met some extremely talented people from all over the world, can someone please tell me why Norwegian programmers are so darn good?

During the last year of my degree I started to work for the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) on a part time basis. After 18 months I was promoted to Database Administrator having familiarised and proven myself with Transact SQL.

At the APA I managed to implement some really valuable systems. I successfully integrated our online membership forms directly with our database system. This reduced our processing KPI from over a month to 3 days.

I am now working for imagin8 as their senior developer and cruizing along happily, having decided to leave the APA for something a little more in my interest area.
